Travel and food are the perfect combination. Can you name a better duo? If you follow my Instagram you’ll notice that I post a lot of food pictures! I absolutely love food, and I think travel and food complement each other in an extraordinary way. From pizza to tacos and other culinary delights, here are some of the restaurants you can’t miss if you’re in the tri-state area. Bring your appetite and get ready to dig in!
1. Henry’s Diner
Located on the Rutgers New Brunswick campus, Henry’s Diner is a retro diner serving everything from pasta to cheesesteaks. It gets even better; they serve all-day breakfast! I love coming back to my Alma Mater and enjoying a meal at Henry’s with the family. My favorites: Chicken penne Alfredo with veggies, Chicken stir fry, carrot cake.
2. Landmark Americana
Landmark is a true all-American restaurant, with convenient locations around the Philadelphia area. With delicious offerings like mac and cheese, smoked chicken tacos, and Moroccan salmon salad, this restaurant has something for everyone. Enjoy Happy Hours Monday-Friday from 4-6pm with discounted appetizers. My recommendations: grilled salmon with pesto, Parmesan truffle fries.
3. Grand Lux Cafe
If you’re looking for luxe on a budget, look no further. Grand Lux Cafe by far my favorite restaurant on the list. It was created by the founders of The Cheesecake Factory and first opened in Las Vegas. The menu consists of internationally inspired cuisine and classic American favorites. Large tables and large portions make this the perfect spot for families and friends. With incredible dishes, amazing service, and a sophisticated setting, you’ll want to come back every week. My recommendations: Thai Fried Chicken, Crispy Caramel Chicken, Asian Short Rib Tacos, “The Best Carrot Cake.”
4. Cobble & Co
Cobble & Co is a hip restaurant that brings a modern twist to classic American dishes like burgers and wings. Located in the Seaport District, Cobble & Co offers over 40 draft beers, milkshakes, small bites, and specialty burgers. A visit here will surely complete your NYC day trip. My recommendations: The Hughes Burger, C&C Mac & Cheese.
5. Silver Diner
The eclectic Silver Diner is modeled after the classic American diner and has locations across the eastern United States. It offers a variety of (all-day) breakfast, lunch, and dinner items, as well as specialty diet options and weekend brunch specials. Must try: Banana stuffed French toast, Grilled fresh Atlantic salmon, Fiery fried chicken.
6. Sabrina’s Cafe
Tired of frequenting the same brunch spot with your friends? Try Sabrina’s Cafe instead. This light and airy cafe is known for its breakfast and brunch options, such as Stuffed Challah French Toast, and Huevos Rancheros. Convenient locations in NJ and Philly will make weekend brunching a breeze. My recommendations? Mel’s Chicken Cutlet, Stuffed Challah French Toast
7. Villa Rosa Ristorante
If you’re looking for authentic Italian food, look no further. Villa Rosa is a pizzeria-restaurant serving traditional Italian dishes in a warm, homey setting. The portions are hearty, the food is fresh, and the service is impeccable. My favorites: Vodka rigatoni, Chicken Rollatini
8. Zinna’s Bistro
For Italian-American cuisine in New Jersey, check out this charming BYOB restaurant in Cranbury. The food at Zinna’s Bistro is made with fresh ingredients grown in their on-site garden. In addition, there’s plenty of seating, including an outdoor patio for up to 45 people. Stop by the “Carry-Out Counter” to purchase your food to go. My recommendations: Rigatoni Vodka
