Baltimore is simply amazing. The bustling city was one of America’s most prominent port towns and has come a long way since. The famous tourist destination is also known as ‘Charm City,’ and has become one of the most popular U.S. cities to visit. It’s the perfect place for a relaxing weekend getaway; with great food, sporting events, shopping, and entertainment. If you’re on ever on the east coast, Baltimore should definitely be on your list.
If you only have a weekend to spend in Baltimore, here are some attractions you can’t miss.
Day 1
The Walters Art Museum
One of the highlights of my recent trip to Baltimore was The Walters Art Museum. This is by far one of the best museums I’ve been to! The museum is located in downtown Baltimore and was founded in 1934 by father and son William Thompson Walters and Henry Walters. The collection includes over 36,000 pieces from around the world. Some of the exhibits include Roman/Greek art, Renaissance/Medieval art, Islamic art, and Egyptian art.
In addition, the museum is also completely free to visit daily. Another plus is the Family Art Center on the lower level where you can read and do art with your kids. Also, the location is especially convenient and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Located just across the street, The Washington Monument is also an interesting historical site to see. Some other popular museums around the city are the American Visionary Art Museum ($15.95) and Baltimore Museum of Art (free). Additional notable attractions include The George Peabody Library (free) and Edgar Allen Poe House ($8).
In the afternoon, stroll through historic Fell’s Point neighborhood, and catch a game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
Day 2
Explore the Inner Harbor
On your second day, get ready for some fun at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. With restaurants, shops, and entertainment, there is something for everyone! Some popular restaurants at the harbor include Hard Rock Cafe and Phillips Seafood. Activities include the Baltimore Water Taxi, Paddle and Electric Boats, USS Constellation, and the National Aquarium.
National Aquarium
Next, head over to The National Aquarium. With over 20,000 animals in various exhibits, The National Aquarium is one of America’s largest aquariums. It’s also one of Baltimore’s most famous attractions, and tickets are $39.95 for adults, and $29.95 for children. Travel tip: save money on tickets by visiting on a Friday night instead! Half-Price Friday Nights run year-round on Fridays between 5pm and 9pm.
Nightlife
To get your evening started, head to Power Plant Live: a massive entertainment venue featuring live concerts and themed events. Baltimore is also home to some amazing bars and breweries, so be sure to check them out.
Day 3
Explore Baltimore’s suburbs
If your schedule permits, venture into some of Baltimore’s beautiful suburbs. Two of my favorites are White Marsh and Towson. In White Marsh, grab a bite from Michael’s Cafe and stop by White Marsh Mall for some shopping. Finally, some popular places to see in Towson include Towson University and Towson Town Center.
Where to eat
If you’re looking for some great food, check out some of Baltimore’s top rated restaurants. Some famous restaurants include Woodberry Kitchen, Ida B’s Table, The Food Market, and Crabtowne USA.
Where to stay
Lastly, be sure to make your trip extra comfortable by staying at one of Baltimore’s best hotels. There are a variety of budget-friendly and luxury hotels for every preference.
