Like so many other people around the world, I started working from home once the pandemic hit last year. This was a pretty big adjustment for me, especially with everything else going on. Now that I would be spending a majority of my time at home, I knew I had to make some changes to create an optimal place to get work done, whether I was working my 9 to 5 or working on my blog. I then decided to completely transform my space to make it more efficient and inspire creativity.
My tips and must-have essentials for working from home
If you’re looking to update your home office or workspace, here are a few tips that have worked for me:
- Place your workspace in an area that receives a lot of natural light. Good lighting is extremely important in order to reduce eye strain. In addition, sunlight has numerous benefits such as improving mood, building strong bones, and improving certain health conditions. If you live in an area with fewer daylight hours, consider investing in a light therapy lamp. It mimics natural sunlight and may help provide some of the same benefits.
- Hang up some artwork or photography for creative inspiration. Keep uplifting messages and affirmations in your workspace to keep you motivated.
- Invest in ergonomic equipment such as a desk chair, mouse, keyboard, and cell phone stand. Check with your employer to find out if they offer an ergonomic assessment or reimbursement for office equipment.
One of the most important improvements you can make to your workspace is upgrading your desk. I highly advise getting a standing desk or laptop stand so you can stay active throughout the day. This was the biggest change I made to my home office, by far. My new adjustable standing desk from FlexiSpot (gifted product) is now the perfect addition to my workspace. Whether I’m editing photos for the blog or on a conference call for my 9-5, it helps me stay productive and active while working. It’s stylish, budget-friendly, and so easy to assemble. The desk also easily lifts and lowers using the 2-button keypad.
