3. Williamsburg, Virginia

It was once the capital of the Virginia Colony from 1699 to 1780 and played an important role in the American Revolution. With its award winning museums, restaurants, and excursions, it makes for the perfect weekend getaway or family vacation. 4. Albuquerque, New Mexico
New Mexico’s largest city is truly a gem. If you’ve dreamt of seeing some beautiful desert landscapes and historic adobe architecture, Albuquerque is a great city to explore. It was deemed one of the best budget-friendly cities to visit by Travel Channel, due to its low-cost attractions. For a relaxing start to your trip, check out Old Town, the historic part of the city. Along the Sandia Mountains you’ll find many outdoor recreational areas like Sandia Peak Tramway ($25) and the Elena Gallegos Open Space ($1 per vehicle, M-F). For family-friendly activities check out the Albuquerque Aquarium and Rio Grande Botanical Gardens. 5. Cincinnati, Ohio
Cincy is well-known for its sports teams, but that’s not all it has to offer. An individual traveler can expect to pay about $853 total. Orlando has the most unforgettable theme parks such as Disney World and Universal Studios. As a kid, I really enjoyed going on family vacations to Orlando and visiting the different theme parks. If you’re interested in something different, check out some other attractions like Orlando Museum of Art, Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, and Lake Eola Park.
7. Atlanta, Georgia
Atlanta is in many respects the Capital of the South. This dynamic, exciting city is perfect for solo travelers, family vacations, and weekend getaways. Looking for festivals, museums, and sports? ATL has it all. The variety of free and affordable things to do is one of the best parts of the city. Check out Centennial Park, the centerpiece of downtown Atlanta, or visit the historical Martin Luther King, Jr Birth Home (free). You can also catch a concert or sporting event at State Farm Arena, and even do a tour of Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Be sure to grab some tasty food from Krog Street Market and Ponce City Market – two of the most vibrant venues filled with cafes, shops, and restaurants.

With its rich history, thriving arts scene, and bustling nightlife, Philadelphia is a can’t-miss destination for all travelers. Downtown, there are many luxury and budget hotel chains to choose from. If you’re looking to save extra, consider staying in one of the neighboring towns to cut costs. Free or cheap attractions around Philly include Dilworth Park, Franklin Square, Elfrith’s Alley, The Rocky Statue and Steps, and so much more. Kick back and relax at Spruce Street Harbor Park, or grab a famous Philly cheesesteak from Geno’s. The busiest time to visit is in July, and low season is around February.

9. San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio is a booming city with attractions for families and solo adventurers. The city has a rich history, with a strong Mexican influence. Budget travelers will enjoy the variety of low-cost activities such as Phoenix Art Museum, Desert Botanical Garden, Roosevelt Row Arts District, and desert hikes at various regional parks. Also, be on the lookout for free museum days, which occur throughout the month. 3-star hotels average about $92 a night, and 5-star hotels average $184 per night.

This guide was so helpful when I was out of town!
I went to Georgia and I had time to spare in ATL before my flight so we visited the Coca Cola factory and sky view per the recommendations and it was very cool. I found out when I got there you can buy a pass that includes multiple attractions for a set price . I will purchase that when I visit again.
I plan to use this page again to plan my trip to Albuquerque NM next year!
