Ulysses Wiggins Waterfront Park Promenade
The Ulysses Wiggins Waterfront Park Promenade trail runs along the Camden Waterfront from the Ben Franklin Bridge to the Battleship New Jersey. Be sure to visit RCA Pier, a beautiful park where you can play or simply take in the sights and sounds of nature.
Along the trail, you can also access popular attractions such as Adventure Aquarium, Battleship New Jersey, Camden Children’s Garden, and Wiggins Park. The Hilton Garden Inn and Rutgers University are also just steps away.
During the summer, enjoy a concert at Freedom Mortgage Pavillion, take the ferry to Philadelphia, or view the 4th of July fireworks. The waterfront is also a fantastic spot to soak in the stunning skyline views of Philadelphia.
Cooper River Trail
Located in Pennsauken, NJ, the Cooper River Trail at Cooper River Park is a popular destination on the circuit with fun activities and events held throughout the year. We came to this trail to take a stroll at sunset, and it didn’t disappoint.
At 3.7 miles long, this trail is expansive. Along the route, you’ll find a beautiful bridge, playground, restaurant, ample green space, historic Hopkins House, and a plethora of wildlife (birds and butterflies are popular). This nicely paved Circuit Trail is perfect for walking, jogging, biking, and more. Bring your loved ones and make it a whole-day adventure. The Cooper River Trail is a lovely retreat from the city but is still close enough in case you’re looking to venture into Philadelphia.
Benjamin Franklin Bridge Pedestrian Walkway
Did you know that there’s a walkway you can take right into Philadelphia? This trail definitely stunned me because, in all my years of living in the area, I wasn’t aware that you could walk alongside the Ben Franklin Bridge!
Using the Benjamin Franklin Bridge Pedestrian Walkway, you can be in the city in just a matter of minutes – on foot or bike. This Circuit Trail provides seamless access to a variety of attractions, activities, and popular destinations. For example, the walkway currently connects to the Ulysses Wiggins Promenade in Camden. It also provides convenient access to Franklin Square and Independence Mall in Philadelphia. It serves as an important link to the Camden Greenway, which will provide an off-road route between Philadelphia and regions within Central New Jersey.
The walkway is open between 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. from October 1 to April 30, and between 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. from May 1 to September 30.
Here are the Circuit Trail entry points for the Benjamin Franklin Bridge Pedestrian Walkway:
New Jersey side: 4th and Pearl St. behind the Rutgers Gymnasium
Philadelphia side: 5th and Race St.
Merchantville Trail
The Merchantville Trail runs 1.5 miles long and is perfect for a variety of outdoor activities. Situated in charming downtown Merchantville, the picturesque trail is lined with large trees and Victorian-era homes. The Merchantville Trail provides easy access to historic sites like the Niagara Firehouse, as well as businesses such as Eclipse Brewing Company. Be sure to also visit Market Off Centre, Merchantville’s community market that promotes local farmers, crafters, artists, and more. Market Off Centre is open the first Friday of the month through September and each Friday in October from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Schuylkill River Trail
The Schuylkill River Trail is a multi-use trail situated along the banks of the Schuylkill River. It currently runs about 80 miles, and once completed, will span approximately 130 miles from Philadelphia to Auburn, PA. The Schuylkill River Trail is a lively, popular trail that runs from the heart of the city to suburban and rural areas throughout southeastern Pennsylvania. Along the SRT is Schuylkill River Park, which features a playground, basketball courts, and a dog park. In addition, you can enjoy a stroll, picnic on the lawn, or take in stunning views of the Schuylkill Banks.
The trail connects to popular sites such as the Philadelphia Art Museum, Boathouse Row, and Bartram’s Garden. Key sections of the SRT include Philadelphia, Phoenixville, Pottstown, Reading, Hamburg, and Pottsville. This Circuit Trail is one of my favorites, as it provides a strong sense of community, offers easy access to amazing Philadelphia landmarks, and can be utilized for a variety of outdoor activities.
