South Jersey has some of the most unique dessert shops in the state. One of the best parts about living in the Greater Philadelphia area is the wide variety of eateries and restaurants. If you’re looking for places to satisfy your sweet tooth, I’ve rounded up some of the best places to get delicious desserts. Keep this post bookmarked for future reference when you’re in the Philly area!
Carlo’s Bake Shop
If you loved the popular TV show Cake Boss, be sure to take a trip to Carlo’s Bake Shop. Their main location is in Hoboken, but luckily they also have a South Jersey shop conveniently located in Marlton, NJ. Popular menu items include their famous rainbow vanilla cake, red velvet cake, cheesecakes, and cannolis. Carlo’s Bakery is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm.
Cookie Munchers
Nobody in Jersey does cookies quite like Cookie Munchers. They are located in downtown Glassboro, NJ on the Rowan University campus. Cookie Munchers specializes in freshly baked cookies but what sets them apart is the massive size of their cookies. Additionally, there are a variety of delicious flavors and toppings to choose from (s’ mores, chocolate chip, red velvet, sugar, chocolate drizzle, sprinkles, and more). From cookie dough poppers to their popular A La Mode (cookie with 2 scoops of ice cream on top plus toppings), there are tasty treats for everyone. I tried the s’ mores cookie dough poppers, chocolate chip cookie, and M&M A La Mode with vanilla ice cream and sprinkles, and they were all delicious!
The staff at Cookie Munchers is also extremely friendly and helpful. I spoke with the assistant manager who spoke very proudly of their restaurant. She told me that they aim to make people happy and provide a friendly environment, which is something I immediately felt when I visited. Needless to say, this will now be my go-to for fresh-baked cookies. They’re open daily from 11 am to 1:30 am and offer takeout or delivery. Follow Cookie Munchers on Instagram for updates, announcements, and giveaways!
*I received complimentary desserts from Cookie Munchers in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own*
Rosie’s Bakery
Located in the Williamstown Farmer’s Market, Rosie’s Bakery serves a wide array of baked goods from donuts and their famous sticky buns to fruit bread and homemade quiche. All of their desserts are baked daily so you can ensure they’ll be fresh. Their homemade donuts are some of the best I’ve ever tried and I love the variety of flavors. Tip: the line at Rosie’s gets very long so try to get there early in the day. The Williamstown Farmer’s Market is open Thursday from 9 am to 5 pm, Friday from 9 am to 8 pm, and Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm.
Chloe’s Creme Puffs
Chloe’s Creme Puffs is a family-owned, locally-sourced bake shop in Pitman, NJ. As their name suggests, they are known for their famous creme puffs. However, their menu also includes scones, cupcakes, muffins, and cookies. Chloe’s also makes custom cakes (including vegan options) so contact them if you’re looking for a special cake for your next celebration or event. I ordered my birthday cake from them and it was superb! The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating to my requests. Chloe’s is open on Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. Check out their delicious creations on Instagram and follow for updates and giveaways.
Yhanne’s House of Cheesecakes
If you’re looking for the best cheesecakes in south Jersey, look no further. Yhanne’s House of Cheesecakes is a family-owned, Black-owned bakery located in Clayton, NJ. They offer an amazing selection of cheesecake flavors (over 50 to be exact). Looking for healthier cheesecake options? Don’t worry! They also have keto, sugar-free, and gluten-free cheesecakes. Yhanne’s has been featured on many local news outlets and constantly receives rave reviews from customers. Their cheesecakes are delectable, smooth, and not overly sweet. This bakery is well worth a visit if you’re in the south Jersey/Philadelphia area. The shop is very easy to get to from the major roads, and the customer service is outstanding. Follow them on Instagram for announcements and updates. Yhanne’s is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm.
Gracie’s Ice Cream
Gracie’s is an old-fashioned ice cream and water ice shop located in the heart of Haddonfield, NJ. This shop is a local favorite and is located in the courtyard adjacent to King’s Highway. From March 1st through October 31st, you can enjoy over 12 flavors of home-made water ice or over 20 flavors of Bassett’s of Philadelphia ice cream. The raspberry truffle and butter pecan ice cream are absolutely divine! Gracie’s is open Monday to Thursday 1 pm to 7 pm and Friday to Sunday 1 pm to 9 pm.
